I’m an American and I’m in the middle of my junior year. My Step dad is in the German air force, he was stationed in Germany. The whole family, including myself were all forced to move back with him. Well, I’m about to start Gymnasium here and I’m scared out of my mind. I’m not even that good at German yet! Anyway, is the German school system a lot more difficult than in America? I know you are required to learn several foreign languages… I only know English and German. I start school in a week.

I’ve seen some pictures of some friends of mine, german friends, when they were kids holding in hands a big paper coloured cone, i have asked once but the guy i asked didn’t know how to explain me… What is that? Is some tradition for the first day at school or something?

Ich fand vom Internet heraus, dass einige Ihrer Schulen ein raucherecke haben, in dem Kursteilnehmern erlaubt werden, an der Schule zu rauchen. Ich verstehe, dass Ihre Sekundarschulbildunganfänge an Alter 10/11 mit dem Orientierunsstufe und Ihnen an der gleichen Schule bis die Fertigung Ihrer Ausbildung fortfahren. Tut dieses Mittel, dass 10-11 jahren in der Lage waren, in Ihrem Schule raucherecke zu rauchen oder es zu den älteren Kursteilnehmern eingeschränkt war? Jedoch sie existieren und wenn so, als waren, sie abschafften? Und wie kommt es existierten sie bis so vor kurzem?

I found out using the internet some of your schools have a smokers area where students are allowed to smoke at school. I understand in Germany you begin secondary school at ages 10/11 with your orientation and stay at school until you finish your education. Does this mean that 10/11 year olds were able to smoke in the smoking area, or were only older children allowed to? Do they still exist, and if not when were they abolished? And how come they existed so recently?

Some questions I have are- how did your daily life change because of the wall? (What was it like living in East or West Germany?); did you ever think about escaping across the wall? etc

Wir haben in englisch die Aufgabe das european education project (Text im Buch) zu erklären und daraufhin zu schreiben, ob wir auch daran teilnehmen würden, in welches land wir den austausch machen würden und warum. The European Education project is almost like an exchange for Students in Europe. The idea is that about twenty students travel to another Country of the four link schools in Poland, Finland, Germany and France where they go to school, learn about a new area and share ideas about the Education in other Countries. At the Project about twenty students are able to go abroad, but the School is looking for kind host families for the foreign Students.
In my opinion it is a very good project which gives other Students the chance to learn about new cultures, other types of Education and maybe they can improve their language. Aside from that the Students are able to find new friends in a new country.
Maybe it would be nice to just host a student from a foreign country because you can learn to know a new friend, too and you can learn on this way about new education, cultures or what ever. I would like to take part on this project if I get the offer of my school. It would be nice to travel to England because I think that the Education there is very interesting and at this way I would improve my English. As well I have never been to an English-speaking country, so I don’t know how it would be to speak only English all the time. If I am not able to go to England or one of the other cities I would also host a foreign student. On this way I can help him/ her and I can even learn better speaking English or French. But in the end I would rather choose to go abroad than host a foreign student because I want to see a new area.

I have never been to Germany before…and don’t know what to expect.
Are there any customs that I should be aware of ?
What is it like to live in Stuttgart? Is the weather nice? Are the people friendly to Americans?

Ich habe noch nie in Deutschland gewesen … und nicht wissen, was zu erwarten ist.
Gibt es irgendwelche Bräuche, die ich bewusst sein sollten?
Wie ist es in Stuttgart leben? Ist das Wetter schön? Sind die Leute sind freundlich, die Amerikaner?

Wir müssen für Englisch einen Text über die eigene Schule schreiben, natürlich auf Englisch.
Aufjedenfall wollt ich fragen ob das so okay ist und ihr vielleicht Verbesserungsvorschläge habt ;D
Also :
I go to the Realschule in … . It´s not far from my house, so I go with bike. Here in Germany we don´t allowed to go under 18 with car to school. When you live far from school, you can take the bus. On 8 o´clock start school and go different to the end. Most till 13:15.
Then we have long of free time. It´s very good. In my school there aren´t activities outside school. On my school we have two breaks, the one is longer than the second, so we can eat lunch at school in the cafeteria. There you can buy lots of things, but it isn´t free.
Our class room, where are lockers, we can keep our books on. Sometimes we have class in another room and sometimes six periods a day. Each period is 45 minutes long and the subjects are every day different.
